- Each resident has to pass all the components of the program, independently
- Pass marks for each component will be 70% of the total score for the component being evaluated
- Evaluation is being conducted by following methods:

University Examinations
- Residents with an attendance less than 80% of the total required period will not be allowed to enter the examination at the end of the rotation. He/she will have to repeat the rotation before getting the permission to appear in the respective examination.
- Resident is considered passed in any examination if he/she obtains 70% or more in each paper
- Exact date of the different examinations are to be announced by the University Course Coordinator of Diploma
1st midterm examination
- Examination will be held in the middle of first term, usually in 9th week of training course, while including the course covered by that time
- Examination will include one paper on “Principles of Epidemiology” consisting of MCQs (Marks 120)
1st term examination
- To be held immediately after the completion of 1st term usually in 17th week of training course
- Examination include four papers:
- Paper I: Principles of Epidemiology consist of MCQs (180 marks)
- Paper II: Communicable Disease Epidemiology consists of MCQ/MEQ/Essay (140 marks)
- Paper III: Non-communicable Disease Epidemiology consist of MCQs/MEQs /Essay (140 marks)
- Paper IV: Biostatistics consists of MCQs and statistical problems (100 Marks)
Comprehensive examination
- Only those residents will be allowed to appear in this examination who have
- Completed at least 18 months of training period in the program, with at least 80% attendance
- Submitted at least 2 reports of epidemiological studies (either both short studies or one short study with long project)
- passed both the 1st mid term and 1st term examinations.
- Completed all other assignments/requirements of the training program laid down in this handbook and KSU post-graduate regulations
- Generally to be scheduled in the end of month of September of 2nd year of training, with a resit examination after six months
- Examination include two papers (one paper with two parts)
- Paper I: MCQ / MEQ type questions covering whole of the curriculum covered during the training period
- Paper II: Written practical examination to assess skills in Epidemiology and Biostatistics
- Viva Voce examination
- It is mandatory to pass both the papers by obtaining 70% marks in each paper, to qualify for award of Diploma, however none of the papers will contribute to the final grades awarded for each course unit.
Resit examinations
- In case of failure in any of the 1st midterm, 1st term or comprehensive examination, resident will be given only two more chances to appear for re-evaluation.
- In case of first midterm and term examination, the candidate will appear only in the paper in which he/she has failed.
- In case of Comprehensive examination, the candidate has to resit in the entire examination, even if he has failed only one paper
- In cases when a resident exhausts all permitted attempts, his/her case will be reviewed by the FETP Training committee for final disposal, subject to application by the candidate through KSU postgraduate center, on case-to-case basis.
Literature review Assignment
- Each resident has to submit two literature review assignments on assigned topics, one communicable disease and one non-communicable disease
- Length of each assignment should be 1200 - 1500 words. (excluding reference section)
- Topics will be assigned to the residents by the end of 1st term and will be submitted by the middle of 2nd term. Exact date to be announced by the University coordinator.
- Each assignment will have a total of 60 marks, with 70% as pass marks.
- In case resident obtains less than 70% marks, he/she will be asked to revise and resubmit the literature review till the satisfaction of evaluators.
Epidemiological studies
Short studies / Epidemic investigations
- Each resident has to submit two short studies during his/her stay in the program, at least one of them should preferably be an investigation of an epidemic, in accordance with the instructions given in relevant section in this handbook.
- Resident has to submit the first short study by the end of first academic year i.e. 30th September, and 2nd study at least 15 days before the final comprehensive examination in 2nd year.
- Each short study will be assessed against a total of 350 marks, with a pass percentage of 70%.
- Half of the total marks will be allocated to the supervisor of study for ongoing evaluation of the resident’s study related activities (planning, field work, data analysis, report writing). While other half will be evaluated by the examiner, assigned by the University, on the basis of report submitted. Detailed distribution of marks is given in the relevant section.
Long Project
- During the training period, each resident has to submit one long project, in accordance with the instructions given in the relevant section in this handbook.
- The last date of submission of long project is 15th September of 2nd academic year. In case of non-submission in time the result of the resident will not be declared and in case resident is required to appear in the resit examination he/she will not be allowed to do so. Such a candidate, may be granted a grace period of 3 months for submission of final report, which will be subject to specific application by the candidate and approval of training committee.
- Long project will be assessed against a total of 400 marks, with a pass percentage of 70%.
- 50% of the total marks will be evaluated by the supervisor of study for ongoing evaluation of the resident’s study related activities (planning, field work, data analysis, report writing). While other half will be evaluated by the examiner, assigned by the University, on the basis of report submitted.
Other assessments
- Course unit Epidemiological Applications of Microcomputer (503 FETP) will be evaluated on basis of assignment given by trainer i.e. Microsoft office assignments 15% (30 marks), Epi-Info assignments 85% (170 marks).
- Attendance will contribute 50% (100 marks) in evaluation of training activities (529-30 FETP).
- Course units Scientific Writing (506 FETP), Public Health Programs (507 FETP), Seminars in Epidemiology (508-512 FETP), Epidemiologic Practice ((513-517 FETP), Surveillance systems (522-525 FETP), Scientific Presentations (527-528 FETP) and Training activities (529-530 FETP) will be evaluated in accordance with the methods described in each relevant section.
